                                                         Grooming Team Leader

Position Summary: To supervise the daily operation of the Grooming department ensuring the department operates within company policies, while safely delivering a consistent, quality skiing surface for our customers and encouraging staff performance and engagement.

Employment Status: Seasonal/Full time

Reports to: Field Operations Manager

General Responsibilities:

  • To uphold the company’s mission, vision an values at all times.
  • Is responsible for developing and upholding departmental service and safety standards and ensures departmental staff comply with those standards.

Grooming-Daily Procedures:

  • Supervise the Grooming function.
  • Delegate all tasks associated with daily operation of grooming across shifts.
  • Report to the Field Operations Manager as requested on break downs, damage, daily status, grooming status, wage budget, etc.
  • To develop departmental manual covering all operating and safety procedures in conjunction with the Field Operations Manager.
  • To ensure all appropriate documentation is completed by staff training week.
  • To proactively contribute to improvements and developments of the ski area and the grooming function specifically.
  • Abide by all company rules/systems as outlined in Grooming and Ski Area manuals.
  • Perform all tasks associated with daily operation of grooming.
  • Ensure that reports are completed at end of shift.
  • Provide on mountain transportation for Safety Services team.
  • Provide accurate overnight weather and snow condition reports for the early morning reports.
  • Perform all other tasks as required from time to time.

Staff Management (General HR and Policy):

  • To recruit, induct and supervise all staff in accordance with company guidelines while supporting compliance with NZ employment law.
  • To support and foster an environment of open communication with team members at all times.
  • To ensure all team members behaviour, while in uniform, is in line with company standards and values.
  • To deliver and document all training on departmental and safety functions as per the department and H&S manual.
  • To encourage staff development by recommending staff for development and training.

Guest Service Delivery:

  • Is committed to creating a service excellence within the department and supports company initiatives to improve the guest experience.
  • Is proactive in responding to guest complaints and is focused on improvement and looks for solutions to the issue.

Health & Safety:

  • To support safety awareness training to all members of the Grooming team and that all staff are made aware of their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act.
  • Supports and communicates procedures within the team that ensures Treble Cone is compliant with H&S legislation at all times.
  • Reports, records and investigates all accidents and incidents within the Operations department openly and accurately.
  • Actively ensures all hazards and risks are identified, documented and solutions are actioned as per company policy.

  • Leads by example using their knowledge of the business to deliver excellence in product and service.
  • Is a natural leader and communicator.
  • Has the ability to communicate with a variety of people; in a variety of formal and informal situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several responsibilities and functions at once-is cool under pressure.
  • Enjoys the challenge of a changing environment, can adapt to the needs of the business, customers and staff.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 seasons of grooming experience including winch experience.
  • Minimum of one season grooming at Treble Cone.
  • Has relevant people management experience.

Qualifications:

  • Have a current NZ Driver’s License or equivalent and recognised license
  • New Zealand Heavy Self-Laying Track licence for NZ driver licence holders or proven experience on similar machinery (> 2500 hours)
  • Have a current Class 2 NZ Driver’s License or equivalent
  • 1st Aid level 2
  • Intermediate ski ability
